Your Dreams Don't Have to Die

CT loves to convince itself the frontier of onchain apps is closed – that every stone's been turned and every possible app already exists, leaving nothing worth shipping and rendering all new work a waste of time. Doom scroll long enough, and your favorite anon cynic will also tell you that crypto's just a terminal void that plays host to nothing but uninspiring vaporware, reskinned forks, and endless grifts.

The goal of the Megamafia program has always been to challenge this perception: using MegaETH's technical unlocks to reveal how much design space remains unexplored, and backing teams building truly novel onchain experiences that can carry this industry beyond its niche of 10,000 degenerate onliners.

Our approach with Mafia 1.0 was fairly straightforward – take existing primitives and supercharge them by leveraging MegaETH's increased bandwidth, reduced latency, and larger contract sizes (e.g. Avon, Euphoria, WCM, etc.).

Mafia 2.0, however, demanded a broader scope and an added level of creativity.

When we set off to Copenhagen in July for the cohort's first offsite, the goal was no longer just to optimize what already exists, but to challenge builders to imagine and pursue product spaces outside conventional thinking.

This post kicks off the reveal of what those teams have landed on over these last few months. Mafia 2.0 rollout will take place in three batches, starting today with the first batch of teams.

Before we dive in, it's worth setting the stage with the unifying theme that runs through the cohort. @DougieDeLuca put it best in a recent message he sent over, describing a Mafia 2.0 app as one that:

"formalizes an existing loop instead of manufacturing new demand."

Across the cohort, you'll see exactly that – apps that take fragmented day-to-day behaviors, distill them down to coherent flows, and in doing so, unlock new connections between them.

This instinct, paired with elite execution, is what sets the Mafia apart.
